About

Greeting from Ella

Hello!

My name is Ella, the founder and CEO of the Silk Road Music Shop. As someone born and raised in China, I have lived over 10 years in the U.S.A. as a software engineer and jazz vocalist, and I’ve competed in music competitions in Europe. Now, I have decided to return to the arms of my home country, China, to work in e-commerce and focus on exporting traditional Chinese musical instruments to music lovers around the world.

There are many career choices I could have pursued, really. But I chose this path because of my long-standing passion for music and deep love for traditional Chinese music and culture.

I hope that by promoting and selling quality Chinese instruments to more people around the world, more musicians, music audiences, and younger generations can join the music community—bringing in fresh perspectives and helping to sustain and revive the traditional Chinese music I love. This is the most effective way to protect and preserve both the music and the craftsmanship behind traditional instrument-making. A healthy ecosystem of international music lovers encourages good competition, innovation, and the continuation of quality musical craftsmanship.

Thank you for checking out my site today—and more importantly, for your willingness to learn about, explore, and purchase a quality piece of Chinese musical heritage. This is a meaningful investment of your time and money. A quality erhu can last up to 20 years. I hope the instrument we bring to you becomes that one special friend in your musical journey, and can always be your most reliable music companion—whether in your living room or on the center stage of a 10,000-person concert stadium.

Every time you hold our instruments, I hope you feel the balance, resonance, and sound quality it carries—from the hand-sanded body to the beautiful delivery of the voice of your soul. That’s why I visit some of the best erhu and pipa workshops in Wuxi and Suzhou and only present you with the highest quality musical products I can possibly find—because every second of music-making matters, and a great instrument truly brings happiness to people.

I would love to invite every one of you—music lovers and musicians alike—to jam with our core team in Hangzhou, China (whether you buy from us or not), and check out the Chinese music map (where to jam and where to watch a good concert in different cities in China) on our music blog. Many of our core team members are professional musicians who jam at Good Cha Jazz Club Hangzhou every Monday night at 9 PM, and at Huafu Pub Hangzhou every Saturday night at 9 PM. I would love to see you bring your instrument—Western or Chinese—and come meet us there.
